Chair: Linda Zhang, J.P

Linda has worked in China as a teacher, in public relations and for the Hubei provincial government. For the past 15 years she has been living in Wellington, where she runs a successful business with her husband. Linda provides support and counselling to migrants, helping international students with social issues and immigration matters, and liaising with schools and education providers. She also plays an important role in hosting official delegations from China, and is active in the Wellington community. In 2005 Linda was appointed Wellington’s first Chinese woman J.P.

Deputy Chairperson: Bernard Banks

Bernard is an employment and immigration lawyer and a Partner at Kiely Thompson Caisley, Wellington. Previously he was Crown Counsel and the Employment Team Leader at the Crown Law Office in Wellington.

Bernard is a co-author of Mazengarb's Employment Law and is a member of the editorial board of Lexis Nexis Employment Law Bulletin. He is currently Chair of LAWASIA's Labour Law Standing Committee, has a particular interest in regional labour law and immigration law issues, and is an Executive member of Immigration Lawyers’ Association of Australasia.

Luke Qin is a Business Manager with the Bank of New Zealand and an Executive Committee member of the New Zealand China Trade Association.

Having had experience working as a journalist, he is now a contributor to Chinese newspapers in the main centres. He takes part in the newsletter teams of the NZCTA, Wellington Chinese Association and NZ China Friendship Society Wellington Branch that publish newsletters in English.

Luke serves on the committees of various Chinese community groups in Christchurch and Wellington and is a member of the Asia:NZ Foundation Young Leaders Network.

Board Member: John Stanley

John is a real estate specialist and registered valuer with 35 years of experience in real estate, encompassing urban and rural valuations. He assists in the shaping of land-based business opportunities, team development and project management, including economic and risk analysis. John’s interests include business development, with a focus on partnering New Zealand’s entrepreneurs with investors and international market opportunities. He is a Fellow of the NZ Institute of Valuers and Property Institute, and a member of Habitat for Humanity.

Sophie is a project analyst in a government sector in Wellington. Born and grew up in China, Sophie has developed good understanding of market in China. She has also worked in university and various public sectors in New Zealand since 2003. Her interests include swimming, travelling and yoga.

Richard has been Chief Executive of Poutama Trust since 1999.

He has focused the Poutama Trust’s efforts on consolidating and growing Maori businesses including driving the development of the Maori tourism sector, food and beverage sectors, initiating collective and cooperative activity amongst Maori business, and taking Maori businesses international.

The nature and extent of Richard’s work has enabled him to build strong networks and relationships with crown entities, private sector organisations, financial institutions and also to make international connections.

Yuqiu completed her study and had her own business in China. She has experience in education, administration, secretaryship and business. She studied in New Zealand after her arrival and now works as a social worker and reporter.

Yan has been living in Wellington for the past 8 years where she runs two successful businesses with her husband. In 2006 she was an organizer of the party to celebrate Air New Zealand’s first direct flight to Shanghai. In 2007 she was an organizer of the “China Evening” dinner hosted by The Governor General. In 2008 she accompanied former Prime Minister Helen Clark to sign the Free Trade Agreement in China.

Web Manager: Wenlong Fu

Wenlong is pursuing his PhD degree in Victoria University of Wellington. He worked in Arraynetworks (Beijing), SPSS (Xi'an) and SPSS, an IBM company. His interests cover computer programming languages, web security, data mining, statistics and image processing.
